Hi. My name is Sherry Hicks. I have been a teacher at Brock Elementary School for the past eleven years. The library is a great place to visit. Feel free to stop in and check out our thousands of new books. I hope to see you soon!

Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader program is an important part Brock ElementarySchool . All students in first through fifth grade are encouraged to participate.

These guidelines include, but are not limited to, the following:

First Grade Guidelines:

Each student will be read to, read with, and, as he/she is capable, will read independently.

Each student, as he/she is capable, will be tested on the books read.

Each student, as soon as he/she is capable, will be tested with STAR Reading to identify his/her reading level.

Grades 2-5 Guidelines:

The goal setting chart will be used to establish each student's individual reading goal.

Each student will know his/her ZPD range.

Each student will be tested with STAR Reading to identify his/her reading level and to determine progress; testing will occur two to three times per year as determined by the classroom teacher.

Reading Practice

Reading practice will occur in each classroom at a rate of 30 minutes per day. Reading practice may include any combination of activities, i.e., read to, read with, and read independently.
